About the Summit
The South African Diabetes Summit is a flagship biennial event convened by the Diabetes Alliance, bringing together people living with diabetes, healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, civil society, government, and industry.
The Summit will showcase cutting-edge solutions, ground-breaking research, and practical strategies to improve diabetes prevention, education, care, and surveillance in South Africa.
Keynote Speaker
President & CEO of the South African Medical Research Council and former Chair/Head of Medicine at UCT and Groote Schuur Hospital.
A clinician-scientist and health leader, his work focuses on evidence-based care, health systems, NCD multimorbidity, and UHC. He holds a DPhil (Oxford), MD (UCT), MBChB (UCT), and BSc(Hons) (Haverford).
He is deeply committed to mentoring emerging scientists and clinicians and serves on numerous boards and scientific advisory committees nationally and internationally.
Programme Highlights
The 2025 Summit features three days of high-level plenaries, debates, and workshops:
Day 1 (11 Nov) – Pre-Summit Workshops (e.g., Building a Type 1 Diabetes Registry, Diabetes in the Workplace, Peer Support).
Day 2 (12 Nov) – Opening Ceremony, Guest Lecture by Prof Ntobeko Ntusi, Thematic Sessions (Awareness & Prevention, Education), Innovation Showcase, and the Fundraising Dinner.
Day 3 (13 Nov) – Thematic Sessions (Management & Access to Care, Surveillance, Innovation & Research), HCP Masterclasses, and the Big Debate on ensuring diabetes innovations reach those who need them most.
